Transmission Fluid Change?

When I go to look for a filter for the tranny, I get a filter intergrated into the pan. Is that they style on ours?or is it just a regular pan w separate filter?

It is a separate filter from the pan. I was confused about this topic too since some places show it as integrated. RockAuto is a good source for part #'s and what you are buying. If you are doing it yourself, read these threads about the tricky parts with the support cross member. I am getting ready to do this on my 4th A6 (just ordered the amsoil fluids). It is time consuming but not overly complex except for getting the car on jack stands so you can run it while doing the final fill.

Audi Trans fluid changes
Ladies & Gentlemen,
Gather around and listen to my sage advice. 2006 A6 C6 Quattro 4.2 Base. At 189K miles she started skipping 3rd gear shifts. Then 3rd & 5th shifts started going south. Checked Transmission rebuild prices..... (ouch!). Decided to go with Option 2 bought a set of Solenoids 7 ea on Ebay for $200 bucks new with seals. Dropped the pan. Trans fluid was dirty and sparkly. Bought two filters let the fluid drain overnight put filter 1 in and left the original solenoids in. Bought 2 gallons of Valvoline Max Life synthetic tranny fluid from Walmart. Drove the car for 2 days manual shifting when it would obey. Dropped the Pan again fluid looked better (kind of). Pulled the Solenoids swapped the Blue solenoids and the Yellow solenoids, then another 2 gallons of Valvoline Max Life synthetic fluid back in. I had planned to swap fluids a third time but the trans shifted great after two fluid swap and solenoid changes. less than $300 its back on the road good as new. Now has 250K on it. Still working.
Getting ready to change front half axles due to a CV joint boot failure. The Valvoline Max Life synthetic meets the fluid spec called out by Audi.

Sounds good Cosmo, definitely seems like your problems were failing solenoids.
You mentioned seals - which seals did you replace? Was it the seals above the valve body, or maybe they are seals which seat the solenoids? I have rpm fluctuations at low revs in cold weather, where it seems the torque converter doesn’t lockup properly, so just wondering whether dropping the valve body and replacing the seals might help. I’m interested to hear from anyone who has taken the valve body off, how it went.
Interesting the cheaper fluid hasn’t caused your transmission problems. Which fluid was in the box originally? Tan, blue or green?
