Default What to check for on a higher mileage 4.2 beyond VCDS scan

I have owned 3 C6 A6s (05,07 and 05). All had the 3.2 and all have been taken out by deer. The most recent one this past week. As much as my family is trying to dissuade me from buying yet another A6, I am going to get another A6. All 3 I have had came equipped with the 3.2. All had over 100k miles and gave me no problems. The last 05 did have the timing chain tensioner problem and the engine grenaded. He knew someone at Audi (we live near the Audi HQ( here in Northern VA) and was able to negotiate a brand new engine and split the cost with Audi. The replacement engine had ~30k on it. Regardless, none of the engines gave me any problems.
This time around I want to get a 4.2. I found a really nice 08 A6 S-line. Owned and driven by a female professional who upgraded to an A8. It has 98k miles. I assume the primary check is VCDS for Engine block 93 to check the correction on the timing chain. Also obviously check the coolant color, under the oil cap.
Are there other easy indicators to check? I have a VCDS and will run a complete scan.

I would tell you to go ahead with purchase...that you will love it..that the chains and guides are better in 07 and up..but WON'T!!!!!!

Over the last weekend, I did drive two cars with the 4.2. A 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton. Really nice car, too bad they were only brought to the US for 3 years. And a 2007 A6 with the 4.2 at a really shady car dealer. I couldn't really drive it much since it vibrated os much. I pulled off after getting on the road and noticed there were 3 different kinds of tires on it. Loved the 4.2 though. sounded great and felt great. I'm tempted by the Phaeton, but have to imagine getting some of the specialty parts is a PITA.
