Default Audi Build Process....?

Any insight into the Audi build process? For example, is it an iteriative build process? Meaning are they making improvements on the build during the year based on feedback from customers and experience and if so how often is that occurring (monthly, qtrly, continuous)? If so, does anyone have any examples? Or do all of those changes get "batched" and made in the next model year. In this case, the 2013 model year.

What's driving this question? I'm really interested in ordering an A7 sometime in Janauary and getting on the Apr/May build but I usually don't buy a first edition anything as a rule of thumb. I like to wait until at least the 2nd or 3rd addition when all the kinks are worked out. But if they use an iteriative build process, then perhaps that concern can be addressed and I can go buy this beautiful car now. You know the problem Head vs. Heart. Feel free to convince me!

Howdy,

This is my 4th Audi, I follow the brand. Definitely a car guy.

The answer to your question is anyone's guess, as Audi doesn't leak details about the upcoming model year until the last minute.

Typically what happens is that once they come out with a new platform (B4, B5, C6, C7) any changes for a model year are minor, if any. I know with the A7, a lot can be addressed via software update.

For example I had a 2005 S4 Avant. It was a B7 platform (I think). The B7 platform was the same each model year until they went to the supercharged V6 engine in 09 or 010 which was the B8 platform. Same thing with the S6.

So based on history, I wouldn't expect any significant changes for 013.

Happy New Year,

Appreciate the feedback. Sounds like I should move forward with a January order which is of course what I was hoping would be the outcome! But would still appreciate any other insight from Audi experts.

Failures are closely monitored and a statistical frequency chart is maintained. If a failure exceeds a certain percentage level, action is taken to identify the reason for the failure, correction is devised and information about the issue and its rectification is distributed to the service centers. Revised parts are also made available if needed. The change is incorporated into production and from that date the cars are built with the revised/improved components.

Typical example was the A7 puddle light (in the door handles) failure. It was established that moisture entering the handle around the LED caused the light assembly to fail. Instructions were provided to the service centers to use silicone to seal the lights and a new seal assembly was used on the newly produced vehicles ever since.

So you can be assured that improvements are incorporated into the production as they are discovered and a solution devised.

On top of that, many changes are now possible (and are done) with reprogramming the electronic control systems. Previous car technologies did not have that luxury.
