My 2012 A7 is the same way. See how the teather is bent by the hinge? That's where mine broke.

I found another listing for the Volvo strap and the gas cap end is too large for the C7 cap.

Might as well order it online (Discounted for ordering online $30-$40) through your dealer and see if they offer an additional discount if you are an ACNA member. Looks like you can't just order the strap.

Due to the design of the attachment it puts too much strain to the cord when it's either in or not in use. My 2017 Q7 has a different design and I am sure that will last much longer.

I can confirm that the strap that came with the Chinese-made fuel cap fits perfectly to the OEM fuel cap. About $6 is all you need.

Good to know. Did you just use the strap and attach it to your original fuel cap? Is it longer than the original strap?
Do you have a link to purchase just in case mine breaks in the future? Audi needs to change or lengthen their strap.
Thanks.

Yup, I removed the strap from the new fuel cap and put it back to the OEM fuel cap. The new fuel cap won't fit to the car at all. It's a different design perhaps for older Audi's.

The strap length is about the same as OEM i think.

That's strange, I bought the one I linked to and it fits perfectly, it even has a "anti over twist" feature my original didn't have.
