I have the dreaded dash clicking sound. The dealer tells me it is the climate head unit, but I don't believe them. It sounds like a relay or actuator that is stuck. It has a pattern and occurs at regular intervals. It doesn't happen when the climate system is off.

Has anyone had this thing also.

It is most pronounced when the AC has been running and you slow down a bit. No need to hit the brakes, just let off the gas a bit, and at the right moment it does the click-click-click thing. Sometimes I don't hear it for days, other days it is much more prevalent. I was driving around today for an hour or so with the AC on (mid-upper 80's) and it did not occur -- then it was not very humid.
Sounds like it is coming from the dash, just left of center, right? My tech can not identify it (he has heard it) but he does not want to rip the dash apart to try and find it. He says since it appears to be climate system related and not a danger, I am better off waiting until it becomes non-intermittent (so he can diagnose it) or something fails. I tend to agree with him.
BTW -- 2000 A8L, 21K miles. I've heard it since about 4-5k miles.

I have a 2000 A8L and I get the same clicking sound. However, I only notice mine when the climate control is on and it is calling for cooling. I assumed it was the climate control system opening or shutting dampers.
