Thank you all for your input. When I turn on the car the ABS light, esp light, and the brake light blinks. I guess I will see if I can borrow or buy a VAGCOM to see for sure but it seems like it is the ABS module. I see that I can send it in to haveit fixed for a reasonable price. If it is a module failure, do any of you know the reputation of modulemaster or cheap-abs? I appreciate all the help so far.

Modulemaster seems to be the most reputable and highly recommended place...that's who I'd use. But again, I'd want to see a code first...and follow Modulemasters trouble shooting guide.

Does your ABS light come on while still in Park? Or does it come on just as the car begins to roll?
I had a similar problem with my '98 -- when I'd reverse out of my driveway, the ABS and brake light would come on along with an audible alarm. If I then shut off the engine and restarted the car...and drove forward, the problem would not return. This continued to happen occasionally, maybe every two weeks...until I cleaned the front sensors, and made sure they were inserted all the way in.
I also had a similar problem with a 95 S6 -- the ABS light came on as soon as the car moved in either direction. The problem turned out to be chipped teeth on the outide CV joints, and both CV joints had to be replaced.
If your ABS light comes on only after the car is in motion, when the wheel sensors do not return the expected signal, then the ABS unit is probably working. But if the ABS indicates a failure before the car is in motion, then I'd guess it is the ABS unit itself.
A while back I had a bad ABS unit on a Passat...and found on ebay a guy who rebuilds them. You simply take out the ABS module and ship it to him... he fixes it and ships it back to you in a couple days. The car can still be driven, it just will not have ABS. I think he even sent me exact instructions on how to remove it. I'm pretty sure this guy will fix any audi/VW ABS unit. And it was a good price too... maybe $75 or $100.
