TozoA8 did it again. My '98 (98K miles)no longer hunts and has the pickup I expected when I bought the car. I replaced the VB and TPS mods and had the transmission filter and fluid replaced by the dealer. Since I bought the car right, the cost so far has been what a well cared for A8 would have cost at the time. After sealing all the oil leaks, the car is what I expected and more. I'll recomend that no one fear the purchase because we now know what we need to do to make it right.

I recently bought a '99 A8 with 100K miles. Car runs great. no leaks, etc. But I did notice that it hunts for gear, especially 1st and 2nd. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't stay at 1st for any period of time. Acceleration is basically off 2nd gear. Advice??

If you tell the transmission computer to use it's Global shifting program, then 1st gear will hold until 50MPH then rage into 2nd gear if you are in the Tiptronic shift gate.
