Anybody ever generate an emissions "readiness" code manually before?

It looks like one not-ready won't stop you from passing, look at this
Remember, vehicles are rejected when more than two non-continuous readiness monitors are "not ready" for 1996 to 2000 model year vehicles, or when more than one non-continuous readiness monitor is "not ready" for 2001 and newer model year vehicles. Additionally, the catalyst monitor must be "ready" at the time of any re-test after a vehicle failed an initial test for any catalyst code.

If you can get everything to be ready except the cat and it's not throwing a code, do it!
Good luck!

I just used this chart to set my readiness to pass CA Smog.
http://www1.snapon.com/Files/Diagnos...CodeCharts.pdf
I had these codes:
17831 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-00 - -
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1113 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
I bought a pair of bosch universals from partsgeek (half the price of local store and 1/4 price of dealership)
The local parts stores either didn't have o2 socket or wanted $40+ dollars.
I bought one on ebay for under $10
I used silverd2s's o2 howto
http://forums.quattroworld.com/a8/msgs/49929.phtml
Great howto the only thing I would ad is make sure the o2 tool you get has as small a nipple on the socket for the two 3/8 extenders to go into because down in that that little cave you will be reaching up into there isn't room for anywhere near 360 degree rotation. The o2 tool I got had a long arm on it and could only make 1 1/2 rotation on the sensor before it hit a restriction.
I notice silverd2 has a really low profile o2 socket and would love to know where he got that.
Also I had my wife turn the breaker bar while I reset the socket so I didn't have to go from arm deep in car to up top on engine.
I recommend a helper if you have one.
My only regret is I didn't change my o2 sensors the day I got the car.
The smooth idle and better MPG not to mention the first time pass of smog test is so worth it.
this helped too

For the other error I replaced my braided hoses.
http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...sereplace.html
You don't need 15 feet if you cut carefully I got two 3ft hoses from ecstuning and it was exactly (an inch left over) the right amount.
Replace hose, replace 02, run through the readiness sequence and drive to Smog center and pass.
I cobbled all of this together because I had to do these 3 things on my last A8 and chances are I will on my next one and so will others.
The motivation for the readiness sequence is those spurious codes you get from time to time.
Last A8 had a sensitive gas tank/cap pressure problem. Tried all kinds of different gas caps some worked better than others but, it would still throw a code from time to time. This code is an automatic fail on CA smog. And the worst part is they read the code 1st thing(know your going to fail) run the whole test and then fail you for gas cap code.
Enter readiness codes! Pull up to smog place with laptop in car, set readiness, get checked, go home smiling!
