I'm considering a move there for a new job and will be looking for an independent mechanic.

Default Ingersoll Rand (Schlage lock business)

They are based in Carmel. I hear it's a good place to raise a family; schools good, cost of living, stuff to do, etc. I've lived in the south for 12 years so the winters will be an adjustment. It's a really good job/career move. Where do you live ?

Default I'm not so sure that is a good thing after living in the south for 12 years

I know my wife wouldn't be fond of that idea.

I live in Indy, near Geist Reservoir on the NE side. Most all of Hamilton county (Carmel) is nice, good schools, etc. There is a pretty good independent in the Castleton area I would recommend. He worked on my 8 when I still had it.

Where did you live down South? My wife is wanting to move south. Its not so much the cold winters as much as the dreary, no-sun winters that she hates.

Personally, I like Indy.

Default Charlotte, NC

Yeah the winters are going to be a tough one given we lived in Atlanta and Houston prior to Charlotte.

Default Re: Charlotte, NC

I used to work for a software company, SAS, out of Cary. My wife is still po'ed I left the company, she wanted to move down there.

Indy winters aren't all that bad. Last year was non-noticable until a hard cold spell at the end of winter.

If you have any questions about the area, let me know.

The independent is EuroMotorWerks in Castleton. The owner used to run the VW/Audi Dealer service, and when they were sold, he went out on his own. They've grown alot, so he must be doing something right.
