A/C Question

My friend with an 01 A8L has water coming out the vents when the A/C is on. Primarily the floor vents but also the dash vents. The problem is exacerbated when driving uphill. His father-in-law (ex-mechanic) seems to think something is clogged along the A/C lines. Is this something we could fix ourselves? Is there a drainage plug somewhere in the system we could check?

Common problem

What Paul said. Clear the evaporator coil drains and the cowl drains. They clog with goop.

A/C & Cowl Drains.

My 2001 A8L has the same drain problem. When you remove the orange drains from the sides of the transmission tunnel, you will notice that they have little squeezy rubber closing deals on the bottom of them. It appears that they require a certain amount of water to make them open. They are also great debris catchers. I took a pair of cutters and snipped the little closing lips off of them. This appears to be working well, I've noticed two nice puddles of water appear under the car every time I stop and my floor carpets are staying dry. You might want to have a bucket and a funnel ready the first time you remove the drains from the A/C sytem.
