CD's hiss. AM reception poor. What gives?
Just wasted 3 hours completing TSB # 97-98-03 (Insufficient ground @ location 43). Didn't help a thing. Contacts looked SLIGHTLY oxidized, but nothing much. Cleaned 'em, put 'em back, done.
Anyways, I still have AM radio that makes 8-track look like FLAC audio, and a pretty noticeable whine from the radio at all times.
Even when the car is off (radio on), I still get a small hissing. Is this just "part" of using a Bose system? I can't see how alternator whine could be the issue when the car isn't running!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Alex.

I have a slight hiss from all speakers whenever the unit is on...
except when in CD mode and volume is at 0. Otherwise, the hiss is not affected by volume or anything else that I can tell. Doesn't get worse or better if car is on.

You probably have a bad ground cable somewhere for the hissing, or some of the power wires are too
close to audio cables. Any possibilty for water getting anywhere near any audio hardware? clogged drains or such?

It's more of a hum like a faint orchestra warming up. To my ears, it sounds more like digital noise than analog and probably more trouble to root cause and correct than it's worth.
99% of the time, I listen to sat radio thru the tape input, so I don't notice it any more.

Haha good question. I would start by pulling the radio out. There should be a ground cable on that,
as well as there is one on the end of the cd changer cable. Then check out the amp end of the system in the trunk. After that, there are a lllooottt of cables running under the carpet and rear panels in the backseat/trunk area. When I ran a new cd changer cable to the concert in my 97,I tried to pull the old cable out, but it was impossible without ripping the car apart so I just left it in. Also I'd check the wires around the speakers, they could contribute to the problem if they came into contact in some way with water. I saw at walmart and circuit city a ground noise suppressor, I'd give that a shot. I might get rid of the hissing that's associated with the ground cables. But I'd check the easily accessible areas of the audio system, then try the noise suppresor, before ripping the car apart.

Thanks sounds good. As for the radio removal tool, I heard you..
can make one out of the metal strip from a file folder.
I think i'll search for the instructions on how to do that.
