check engine light update-part 2
checked continuity of both oxygen sensors under the passenger and drivers side carpets. The drivers side shows 2.7 ohms which is good, but the passenger side shows an open circuit(page 24-68 in the Bentley). Solution is to replace the oxygen sensor on that side. Has anyone done this, and how hard is it? The Bentley manual doesn't seem to have a procedure. Just says to replace. Thanks for any guidance.

Its a very simple, straight forward job that any shade tree mechanic can do - biggest issue is whether you have access to a lift?
I just did the same two O2 sensors on my 01, used a set of generic Bosch units for approx. $65 each. Did not even need a special wrench, they came off without any hassle (on an older car it might take a little more?)

http://www.autopartsworld.com/2001_audi_a8-quattro-v8-4-2l_oxygen-sensor_parts.html</a

I am thinking of replacing the O2 sensors and the universal Bosch....
sensors are 1/4 the price of the custom fit ones. all you need to do is splice the universal sensors into your existing harness. What I've found is:
Bosch Part numbers
C5010-108837 After cat bed ~$170 ea.
C5010-64381 before cat bed ~$170 ea.
Universal- Bosch 15738 both sides of cat, ~$45 ea.

I noticed that too, that the universal sensors are a lot cheaper. I don't think it would be too hard to splice either. Where did you find the universal sensors for $45?

yes it can be done with no special tools
a open end wrench will do the trick but use a pipe to help break loose. I had to replace the pass side too. You will have to drop the exhaust.. I did this I did not have to take the exhaust off but you will have to at least take it off the hangers..
