I also experienced the intermittent cruise control problem. I replaced the turn signal stalk thinking that this was the problem but that didn't help. I checked everything that the Bentley manual said to check but I couldn't find anything wrong.

The only thing that I couldn't test is the controller itself which I suspected was the problem. The controller is about $300+ so I really didn't want to spend that much money if it wasn't the problem. Thanks to Paul W who alerted me to an e-bay auction, I was able to win the auction for about $63 dollars.

I installed the controller (part number 443 907 305A) and the problem was solved. I did a little looking though the ETKA part catalog and found that it is the same controller that is used in the mid '90 Audi 80, 90, A4 and A6 as well as the A8.

I have no idea what goes bad in the controller, especially since it is intermittent. I took it apart and didn't see anything wrong with it. It is great to have the problem solved and I have Paul W to thank for that.
