don't let this happen to you
<center><img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3230/207/1024/p_021106_001.jpg"></center><p>Yes that's right, zero miles left to go on the tank.
Luckily I was able to find a gas station quickly, but I sure don't want to let this happen again soon. Last time this happened was in the middle of the Arizona desert, and i count myself lucky I wasn't stranded.
Took 22.3 gallons to fill 'er up again.

Re: Been there.
22.3 is extremely empty. How far did u go at zero? Our total tank plus reserve and lines is 23, right?
Zero doesn't scare me, most audi dealers leave their cars at zero when you test drive them, and I have never heard of a test car/demo run out of gas... yet

Re: looking at a 00 740il..
well, i had an '86 325, so it's not exactly a fair comparison...
most of all I like the near-anonymity of driving a debadged $70k car and no one really knowing what it is / no one thinking i'm a car snob the way people will if you drive a 740i. even when i drove the 325 people would come up to me and say "duuuude, you gota a beemer!" when I had paid $2000 for the car and it had 236,000 miles. Sheesh.

I had a 97 740i
For the most part it was a great car. But like all other german cars they have their annoying issues. I replaced parts of the radiator twice, sunroof motor died, wiper fluid pump broke, replaced the control arms, etc. Most of it was under warranty so it wasn't too expensive. Handling was excellent very precise. But next to useless in the snow. That's where the A8 has it beat. But most of all no transmission issues.
Take it out for a drive and see what you think. I really liked the 99-00 body styles.
