Engine Control Module incorrect coding, need correct code!!
My independent mechanic pulled an engine code, I dont have the specific code but it was something along the lines of "Incorrect coding engine control module". He said it was a 5 digit code similar to the transmission code that was probably erased when the battery was disconnected.
Does anyone know what the correct 5 digit code is for the ECM in a 1997 Audi A8 4.2L ? Thanks much appreciated.

Don't think you can recode the ECU, that's a factory thing
Post the codes, and as I mentioned, I have a spare 97 ECU that if you need for testing, I could probably help you out.

Thanks Paul, much appreciated I may take you up on it. After searching a bit I am assuming my error code is P1612 ECM-incorrectly coded. I am only guessing that this is it, and will speak to my mechanic over the weekend to confirm.
My mechanic seems pretty confident that it can be changed.
I read in another post that the ECM code was 01273, does that sound right?
