Follow-up Head Gasket Leak Above Oil Cooler
Follow-up to head gasket leak. Just had two mechanics quote me $2500 and $2900 to replace both sides of the head gasket. I was able to work with the dealership on matching the lowest price. FYI - One of the mechanics said that Audi has been very discreet about this common problem with the earlier Audi A8's. This has been an ongoing problem with the Audi A8's. Is anyone familiar with anyone challenging Audi with this common problem? Thanks again for your time and review.

Interesting-- that might be the same leak I am chasing-- except I don't plan on fixing it until I do the timing belt replacement in about 60K more miles.
My guess is that an independant would cost about $1500-- and I'd have both sides done, and have every piece of rubber and seals above the block replaced at the same time to button your car up for a long haul.

I had two mechanics take a look at it and they suggested to replace both sides of the head gasket. One priced at $2900 and the other at $2500.
