It is my understanding that a number of dealers woul dnot be getting any new A8's until the end of June at the earliest. I confirmed this with a dealer in NJ who said there would be no cars available to them for some time.
I did pick my Audi speced car up two weeks ago, and my dealer had 2 others available at the time as well.

It really seems to make difference in delivery based on the volume of cars that each dealer sells, and their relationship with Audi. I was able to get my car within a week of ordering it, because (or so I was told), they spoke to their Audi rep., and told him I had bought several cars from him over the past year and that my wife will be gettign one in October. They supposedly received an "extra" car for me. Even if it isn't true, it is good for my ego I suppose, or as my wife states, it just shows how much money you waste on buying new cars. I have had similiar experiences with MB in the past when Benz would find an "extra car" at the pier.

theory on the timing issues
as many folks have noticed, the timing on A8 deliveries seems to be taking a lot longer than what we'd generally consider "normal".
my MB dealer can get me a fully-customized S500 in under 30 days if the boat schedule syncs right.
my Audi dealer is quoting late September (3X longer).
my guess is that they produced a bunch of cars and are either (a) waiting to see if they show any problems that require line changes and/or (b) waiting to get a bunch of last-minute items cleaned up (eg: XM radio, phones, etc.) before ramping production for real.
this was a "soft launch" to get the marketing moving. one would think you'd want to launch to get the SALES moving :-) but, hey, who knows :-).
they might be holding cars at port locations or prep facilities for after-production modifications of stuff they found needs fixing or adding.
i'm just waiting for Potsie to get his car so he can post pics of the Amaretto interior - so i hope they get the damn things out NOW! :-)

Congrats on a fine decision...I had looked at the E500...and this car is in a totally different class! I can't wait to take delivery and watch how my father reacts to this car vs his S500.

Re: Also...those are the best "realistic" pics of the Northern Blue...
when this color is not in bright sunlight (not like we haven't the sun in a month on Long Island) it looks lavender/grey to me. Great color....but it won't look good with the Light Beige interior that I had ordered for the Night Blue Pearl car.
