Default I contacted ZF directly in regards to

Transmission fluid change. It was very confusing situation considering I have 2 audi:
Dealer: Do not change it!
Borad:%70 change, %30 do not!

So I contacted ZF direct and here is the copy paste from my mail box. We need to change it at around 100,000K max, but prefered sooner around 40-50K

I need to do both cars ASAP.

Here are the emails:

First One:

Thank you for your interest in ZF products.
Although the transmission fluid may be a lifetime fluid and Audi is correct in calling it that, it wouldn't hurt to change the fluid every 100,000 miles. As a personal preference, I have the fluid every 30,000-40,000 miles which keeps everything fresh and running smoothly though.

Anfrage: I own an Audi s8 2001. Audi delaer is telling me there is no need to change the Transmission oil and it is lifetime. However everybody on the Web is refering to comments from ZF to change the oil every 30,000 miles. I appreciate if you clear this issue, so I would know what to do as this transmission is designed and manufactured by your company.

Thx

2nd One:

Kian,
I would try to get the fluid changed every 50K to 60K. The fluid is a synthetic which will last longer however with the torque converter locking up with calculated slip in all forward gears (in between the shift until 4th) the fluid takes a serious beating so I like to see a change every 50K to 60K.
Let me know if you need more info.

Dear Sir,

I found your name in ZF web site as a registered ZF shop.

I own an Audi S8 2001 model year. It has a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission from ZF (Tiptronic). Dealer is telling me that the fluid is lifetime. However I see lots of comments on the web that people are referring to comments from ZF to change the fluid every 30k.

I am really confused what to do at the moment. I appreciate any suggestion.

Regards

Default Wow- ZF finally admitting to what we on this forum have determined for ourselves over the......

last few years. We tumbled to the 30-40K mile change interval, and it appears that ZF now agrees with us! But I'm sure Audi is sticking to their guns on the "lifetime" claim- can you imagine the liability they would accept if they came out and said otherwise? New trannys for everyone!!!!

Default Wow, ZF approved shop called me!

form US and mentioned to change it around 50K. There is not any ZF approved shop here, so I am going to ask dealer to look after it.

Default I just did it 10 min ago, Sent an

email to the dealer with the link attached and the PDF file of the procedure from Audipages. I will be there soon as they just replacing the instrument cluster. We will go over it so they can order the parts and schedule the service. They also got a copy of the ZF emails regarding the fluid change. I want hem to approve/do the job, so I do not lose my warranty on the car.
