Default If I have to replace my Tranny, why not put a Tip in?

After a lot of thinking yesterday and some help from other listers, it really sounds like I've had some torque converter problems which is internal to the tranny and will require removing it. If that is the case, I'll have to have the thing rebuilt.

Why have it rebuilt when I could find a used or rebuilt one from a parts supplier from a 98 or newer car? If I could get the Transmission ECU with it, I don't think I'll really need anything else to convert it to tiptronic.

Does anybody know or know where I might find out if the tiptronic tranny is different in mounting configurations? The Bently CD only shows one transmissions for all cars, unlike the three engine types (3.6l, 4.2l, 4.2l five valve).

I would imagine if I could get a used one from a crashed car, have it installed, change the ECU (which is under the hood), modify the shifter plate by getting a new one for a tip, I should have covered everything.

Comments?

Thanks.

Paul

Default I have a German Source for them....

...but it would be way too hard to retrofit. Don't have that kind of time. I would need to get pedals, master cylinder, etc. Check out this link to a guy in Germany who has used trannies for sale.

PW

Last week he had six speed manuals for A8's and a S8 tiptronic tranny, now he doesn't have them. Hmmmm.....but he charges about $1500 for a transmission plus shipping.

http://www.s-cars.org/Classifieds/Classifieds/Listings/MISC-PARTS/RobertB/robertb.html</a
