Default Re: Your workaround resistor might be enough to keep it from hunting, but it's bad for science

Will any additional resistor value just be "learned" by the TCM? If we inspect the measuring blocks, Both "actual" and "learned value" are presented.

Regards

Default Re: Long Term Tozo Valve Body Modification Update

I figure I would throw my data into the mix. I have the same problem, with the hunting and transmission drop-out. At least I think............

I marked my VAG log every time I felt the hunting, this is what I found

It always happened in 4th gear (when it should have down shifted into 3rd)
The most frequent speed was 34.72 mph or 56 Km/h and this was the worst chattering

I would like to add my comments about "hunting";
* the car feels like it's in the wrong gear typically between 3rd and 4th
* the car will jolt and chatter like a manual clutch and then switch gears (you can of course make it change gears by pounding on the gas or hitting the break)
* for me this happens on my way home from work, and not on the way to work
* it varies with the weather and temp

I cant wait till someone finds a fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notes:
I replaced the TPS with a stock one about a month ago, once the car learned it the hunting came back. I also changed the ATF fluid 10K ago. The car has only 77K and is a 97 A8Q

Default Problem solved

I ended up droping my tranny out and got my tourque converter and valvebody rebuilt, it didn't solve the issue. I had a local shop do my torque converter and Itp did my valve body. Around 20-40k after the rebuild, the vb blewby and almost took out my clutch drum. I then took it to my local guy and found that There is a hard part within the valve body that wares out, and that this is the issue. If you get hunting, get your vb replaced or bored out. See below

I am recently getting pretty much a lot of gear hunting,
I Changed the fluid and filter 2000 miles ago.Used pentosin, oem filter and oem gasket.
Before with the old fluid it hunted 80% less.
125k miles on the clock.

Thats interesting ^ this all sounds very similar to what mine is doing now. Is there a thread anywhere on what this mod is, or is it top secret?

111K and just now. As per my shudder thread, I think it started behaving badly when the fluid was low due to a leak. I pulled it apart and did the problem bearing and o-ring and re-sealed the sump properly, but its not worked properly since.

The symptoms in this thread are very similar to what its doing, but I'm also beginning to wonder if the low fluid screwed up the TC.

i wonder when you buy transaxle from a dealer its 4300$(part only) what new parts do you get inside vs. tozo rebuild( around 3000$ parts and labor).
