Longshot Question

Re: Longshot Question
I would not buy a car like this with this mileage, I would rather buy a low mileage A8, maybe 2001-2002, except if you really want it and have the means to maintain/repair it, keep in mind there are not even too many A8 on the road...

Re: Longshot Question
ahh.... Olu! I should have put 2 and 2 together. I'm mike davis (of green1995svx fame). I rode in your A8 at the Reading meet this year and had to have one. So, well, here I am. I hope all is well with you. That's a beautiful S8.
Best,
Mike

Re: Longshot Question
Thanks for input, but I've owned an A8 for close to four years now; know thi$ car i$ expen$ive to maintain. ) If anything, I'd opt for an A8L or an S8, hence the interest. Miles don't bother me much, just condition. And I love the color; it's been very good to me as far as not getting ticketed all over the place!

Re: I'll try to get out there over lunch tomorrow
Thanks, but it may be a mute point. Just checked on eBay and the bidding has ended b/c it's no longer for sale. But that may not mean much as it didn't sell the last time. Still, I am curious...

Re: Longshot Question
Such a small world. You'll find the A8 crowd just as fanatical about these cars as SVX owners. Quite a few SVX guys wondered why I bothered with an A8 until, like yourself, they took a ride in it. Then everything makes sense.
If you haven't gotten an '8 come April, I'll be back at Reading, so you're more than welcome to take a closer look at it. No wheel bearing problems like the SVX, but the A8 *does* have its share of tranny trouble. I have a feeling that the root of the problem is the same for both cars: excessive heat. As we found out a while ago in the Yahoo Group, climbing hills tends to spike the tranny temps, rendering the fluid less effective at cooling over time and then tranny failure comes on. I do my part by driving in tiptronic mode on hills (I sooo wish the SVX had that) to keep the car in a low gear, and driving in '4' as opposed to 'D' around town. But I'm rambling; feel free to e-mail me and I'll tell you all I know. In the meanwhile, this group is a fantastic source of knowledge about these cars.

Re: Longshot Question
I already got my a8 back in august. 97 4.2Q. I probably wont be at reading this year. My first year not going since I got my svx. Oh well... onward and upward.
