I recently had my timing belt changed due to this and the fact that its was worn out beyond belief, but surprisingly the noise persists... Sometimes the electric aux fax doesnot turn on wiht the A/c and if wound once by hand to get it started there is a ear piercing screech and then everything returns back to normal...

Usually i just use the belt dressing which takes away the nosie for a while... but then it just seems to return...

This is an occasional thing...not very frequent

My mechanic says that it could be something to do with the tensioner pulley

I would think the serp belt. I have the same issue but only on very hot humid days. and like you I used dressing but still make a noise. the rest of the time (on non hot humid days) it is no making any noise. I was going to change the serp belt to see if it goes away but I would also suspect the clutch in the ac compressor or the tensioner also. But even if I changed it now i would not be able to tell if it is fixed untill we have a hot humid day again.

but the thing is if the a/c sometimes goes nuts i dont know how the sound ...the belt...the electric fan and the a/c are all linked...

I guess you mean serpentine belt? If timing belt squeaks you are doomed!

When the ATF pump cavitates, it sounds like the belt is slipping, but it's the tranny.

Does it do this when cold, or hot?
