Default Mechanical Fan Fixed!

Finally, a 30 minute repair that takes 30 minutes. Using the adjustable pin wrench I bought for $30, and the huge combination wrench from Autozone, the viscous coupled fan nut came loose (still had to hit the big wrench with a hammer to loosen the nut!). Audipages shows using a 10mm combo wrench to hold one of the pulley bolts, but since the threads on the big nut are opposite of the 10mm, they loosen first. You CAN use the 10MM for tightening though.

If anyone wants to borrow the wrench to save the $30 (you can borrow the big combo wrench too-- $20) come on over and get it. I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago (Palatine). I doubt I'll need them again anytime soon!

By the way, once I replaced the fan clutch, I could hear the fan spool up under revs-- notably absent prior to repair. Temp no longer creeps up past the first thick line and today at nearly 95F, was a good test day. Looks like lots of AC stuff in the audiworld D2A8 forum today!

I unfortunately have to do the same repair very soon, but sounds like it wasn't too bad. Where did you get the pin wrench, and do you have any other details about the repair?
Thanks,
Doug
