Default New Oil Leak - What is this part?

97 A8, yay a new oil leak. Did the valve cover gaskets and the passenger side camshaft position sensor gasket this summer, and now there is oil coming out of a cover on the passenger side right next to the camshaft sensor cover.

Picture attached - questionable part has the green line with the question mark.

What is this, and can I replace the seal within without special tools? Or is this more involved?

Thanks!

I've stared at this and can't even tell what I'm looking at, from what angle. Might need to back off a bit to see a little more of the engine.

The picture is looking down the rear of the passenger side cylinder head - the bottom right black part is the coil for the rear cylinder passenger side. The two black hoses dead center are the fuel lines you see when you remove the plastic covers from the passenger side cylinder head. Top left is the air intake closest to the center of the car (when the main long plastic air intake piece is removed).

I think at this point the piece in question is a camshaft plug cover, but not sure what is under there.

That is your cam cover seal. Scroll half way down the article to see it. Easy to replace.
Audipages.com Read article for other seals to replace as well.

Cheers!

Thanks, but thats not what I mean. The red line and arrow in your picture is the same piece as the red arrow in my picture. That is the camshaft sensor cover and I did replace that seal in the summer.

The part I am referring to would be right below the middle finger first knuckle in your picture.

The camshaft position sensor cover has a couple hex bolts on it.

The piece I am trying to identify has three #10 nuts recessed into a very tight space. You can see one of these nuts just next to the fuel line hoses in my picture.

There are two covers, (10 and 14), and seals on the passenger side. Replace both seals, part # 12 and 15 and you should be set.

Thanks for the followup. One more question.

If you look at this page

http://www.ltooz.com/ltooz341/item/a...et-replacement

About 3/4 of the way down - the blue ring gasket - this is the one I did - is that #15 in the ETKA diagram?

#12 looks to be almost the same part # - and I bought two. Is it the same blue ring gasket for both #12 and #15?

And when I take #10 off, there is nothing inside that it is connected to?

I pretty sure the two gaskest are different. If my memory serves me correctly I remember I had to order these a couple of times to get them right. If you can, remove the seals, take them with you to the dealer and verify.

The covers are not connected to anything.
