No new S8?
Spoke to a reliable source the other day that claims he has been told by Audi officials that there won't be a new S8.
Story is that he wanted to order one for his boss to replace his current S8. This guy (the boss) is very well known, very powerful and very rich, I don't think they would bull**** him. Not on purpose anyway. If they didn't know the release date of the car, they could have said so.
Does this make any sense? BMW never had a M7, and have no such plans as far as I know, guess they don't see the point.
Beats me, I have a hard time believing it. Anyone have good sources saying there will be a new S8?

Re: No new S8?
There are several posts suggesting that Dr. Winterkorn (?) has stated publicly that the new S4 will be the last S model. Going forward there will "only" be RS models including an upcoming RS8.

Re: No new S8?
i don't believe that anyone would really know. product planners have long ago stopped talking to people in sales for obvious reasons...
otoh, with the release of the 3.2l v6 a3q as just that (rather than as an "s3") - which seems to go against audi's recent preference for the "s" cars being large capacity n/a engines at the top of their range, and the "rs" cars being turbo's, this might mean that audi is de-emphasising the "s" series as you suggest.
certainly rumours are rife for an rs3, rs4 and even rs8.
i personally love the s8, vive la difference

Oh, Audi has not had a very reliable track record on knowing what they are doing the next year
They seem to go from year to year on a whim. I guess it depends on the weather, etc.

Umm with s-line options who needs the S? its just a badge? Not quite MB is doing things right I think it would be somewhat crazy not to continue the S line cars S3, 4, 6, 8.
Look at this way the top of the line 6 costs 48,600 the S6 goes for 59,400 and the RS6 goes for 83-6 depending on what you hear. SOO there is a huge gap between the A6 and RS6 about 34-5k difference that is huge maybe not for Companies like MB where they can get away with this but lets face it Audi sure cant. That is why I believe that they will continue with the S models; for dropping them will create a huge product gap that they have currently. I could really get into it more in-depth but never mind I just finished up a 19 page paper on Audi for one of my MBA class dealing with product and manufacturing issues. They really would be shooting them selves in the foot by dropping the S models ok that my two cents or better yet three.

there is no such thing as "just a badge"
badges are symbolic of tangible value.
as the previous owner of an "rs" badged audi, and 2 "s" badged audi's, i think that i understand this pretty well. the "s" and "rs" badge gives the owner more brand value, and better residuals - certainly where i come from...
i agree that audi would be foolish to destroy that, and i doubt that they will.
