Those who have had a chance to drive the old A8 with the 300-hp 32-valve engine and the new model: Is there any difference in how the car feels (low end response, throttle response, suspension, etc.).

The only magazine test I have seen on the new A8 (car & Driver) showed the car to be slower than the outgoing model in 0-60 time, even though the A8 was the fasted car in the test group. I know the hp gain is only 10, but Audi has made claims about improved throttle response and low-end power. I was just wondering if the change is subtle or can be felt by the seat of the pants.

I have an 1995 A8 4,2 quattro with the old 300hp-engine, and I even have driven the new A8 with 310hp. There was no big difference feelable, but the reaction of the throttle seemed to be much lazier on the actual A8...

please clarify; I am tring to sort out the world of A8 models and didn't think they offered one in 95, and now you say you have one, when did Audi switch from the V8 nomenclature to A8 thanks

The A8 was available in Europe in '95 but in the states until '97

Yes. I noticed a difference in throttle response, and the power seemed to be available much sooner than on the 97's and 98's I have driven. I drove the 2000 back to back with a used 98, and decided to buy the 2K.
