Ok! It finally happened. No fuel to the fuel lines. Fuel pump must be dead.
I recieved the CPS and it was going in tomorrow early morning.
Today Fri. my car died in the middle of a parking lot.
Towed it home, disconnected the fuel line at the FPR and cranked, not one drop.
So, my no start on first crank must have been the fuel pump that needed more cranking to get the fuel to the cylinder. Maybe?
There is a write-up on replacing the fuel pump, right?
Is it har to replace?

It's pretty easy to replace. The Bentley instructions say to make sure you check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse block first. I've never yet seen one go, but to be sure you can check that. If you have a good fuse and no fuel coming back through the return... it's almost certainly fuel pump.
They seem to go at between 120K and 150K miles.
Access is via the trunk, through the right access panel under the trunk pad. The right sender assembly HAS to be pulled out first or else you can't finesse it out of the hole.
Price the replacement assembly First, though, so you can get the heart attack out of the way!

There was a fuse problem
not too long ago here. However, seeing how the pump seemed to be on its way out recently, that's probably not the case. mAgnum8, you may want to test the fuel pump relay first to be on the safe side before buying another pump: Fuel Pump Relay Test.

Re: There was a fuse problem
Good point. With the abnormally high fuel pump current measured, it wasn't clear in that case whether there was a random fuse failure-- it seemed like the fuse was doing what it's supposed to do, provide protection for the rest of the electrical circuit from over-demand from the load device.
We've had several fuel pump issues with the various D2 and other Audis, but have never seen a fuse failure that wasn't attributable to the pump going out.
Should definitely check the relay, too, though. The test procedure does allow for checking that 12V is getting through to the pump connector in the trunk, which verifies the relay is activating correctly. There is also an audible test to listen for the pump whirring on when the key is turned on.

Re: Please enlighten me, where in the 'Bentley is there write up explaining fuel pump removal?
It's entitled " Fuel Delivery Module, Removing and Installing" under Fuel Supply System in Section 20 within eBahn.
It prints out to about 18 pages, but is actually pretty simple since the tank doesn't have to be dropped.
