Default Quick Question on Tire Size

Gents,

Would it be safe to install the 235/55 R17 sized tires on the standard 17 inch rims of the A8? Anything to be concerned about? I am thinking of ordering a new batch of tires for the car and felt like trying my hand at getting some slightly wider tires without the entire process of changing the rims.

Default According to this nice chart, that'll work. However, you can get 18" OEM five-spokers for free now.

Or so I assume. I paid $2000 for a new set of take-offs almost four years ago. Tozo paid $500 for a new set last summer. Therefore these days someone should bring them to your house for free, with a bunch of Girl Scout cookies thrown in. And who doesn't like Girl Scout cookies? Only the terrorists.

If you have a little time before you need to buy something, enter a search on eBay and save it so you get an email the minute they get listed.

Adding both height and width -- you could go out to 255 or possibly 265 if you can find a tire -- 18s substantially improve handling.

However, 235s will work on your wheels.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/tiresizeoptions.html">But sue ryoung if something explodes and children are beheaded.</a></li></ul>

Default 245/50-17 might be a better alternative..

Excellent max summer performance tires are available from Pirelli and Bridgestone, or all-season tires from Michelin. These will all fit perfectly, 245 is the same width as the S8's tire. (Only the Pirelli was available when I originally prepared the table.)

Default Thanks Gentlemen

I might be going for the 245/50 R17 and so far have found this set (Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical Ultra High Performance All-Season) on tirerack.com which is the only All-Season there for those specs.

Thanks for your 18" OEM five spoke recommendation. I just bought a set of five 18" OEM five spoke wheels (all with TPMS) and 5 tires (still about 90% new per pictures) pulled off an 04 A8L for $700 and the price includes UPS shipping, so you are 100% right that there are some great deals are out there.
