r-8 clutch

r-8 clutch
i was just watching some documentary about how the r-8 is built and they showed a flywheel being bolted to a v10 and then the transmission being bolted up.... but there was no clutch assy of any sort attached to the flywheel... what kind of interface is there on these cars ?

fair enough... but there has to be some sort of mechanical connection to the motor... splined shaft , bolts to a flex plate... SOMETHING ... the flywheel they attached appeared to be a conventional steel flywheel not a flexplate and there was no clutch on it or anything that looked like a place to attach one... just the starter ring gear. and the camera angle was from the rear and side so you couldn't see inside the bellhousing to see what was there... is there a picture or a cutaway drawing anywhere that you know of ?

Here's a shot (from an otherwise short unhelpful vid) of a dual-mass flywheel being attached to a 2013 V10 w/dual clutch trans. The only possible mechanical interface I see "could" be the otherwise unexplained splines next the bolts the worker is installing >>>
Dual clutch trans being shoved onto that motor and dual-mass flywheel >>
Here's some drawings from ETKA, which often don't show small details like splines or even have parts turned around from their actual installation direction.
This drawing shows the dual clutch and cover and how they mount in the semi-auto trans. #5 is called the clutch carrier. #23 is called a carrier with no further explanation...you'll notice it's turned showing a bolt (part of a set) that apparently has nothing to bolt to in the direction shown(?) >>>
Below, the blue arrow shows the dual-mass flywheel used for the semi-auto dual clutch trans. The red arrow shows the flywheel plate that the standard 6 speed manual trans clutch bolts to >>>
And here's a drawing (from Audi USA page http://www.audiusa.com/models/audi-r8 ) showing the standard 6 speed manual clutch bolted up to the flywheel "plate" from the drawing above >>>
Interesting car and unique construction in a lot of other ways too.
Cheers

Hard to find much specific assembly info on the R8, esp the newest models. The only drawings I find are in the ETKA catalog and they are not "exact" in detail, but do provide a few facts. The dual clutch semi-auto model does attach to a dual-mass flywheel that sounds like the one you described.
