Radar detector hardwire question 2001 S8
Given legs this car has I think it is prudent to equip my new ride with a hardwired radar detector. I previously did this in my '01 S4 avant with great success and it looked great. Thus I would like to solicit the following information form the forum:
-What is the 'open' fuse or one that I can piggyback on this car for the install.
-Opinions on the V1 vs the Escort 8500? For reference I had the 8500 in my S4 and was pleased.
Thanks in advance.

Because of A8/S8 glass, you need externally mounted detectors -- link here
And living in Boulder, Todd, you definitely want the laser jammers -- mine don't go off often, but when they do, I look up and there's a cop standing behind a bush, staring at his laser gun and trying to figure out what's wrong with it. VERY satisfying feeling.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/85657.phtml</a

That's not applicable to an 01 S8.
Post-facelift cars do not have the insulating film that blocks most EM radiation, thus killing your radar/cell phone reception. I have a V1 mounted above the rear view mirror that works just fine. And I never miss a cell phone call. 8^) But I do agree with you about the laser jammer. . .

V1 will fit real nice right above the rear view mirror as mentioned below. I hardwired into
the rear defrost. I'm almost positive it was a 30 amp fuse, I used a piggy back fuse to tap in. I have an '03 with all options and haven't ever had this windshield interferance issues mentioned. Works like a charm.
