S8 Suspension Conversion

S8 Suspension Conversion
As many of you know I purchased a S8 last month and my wife took my A8 with the H&R suspension. After I drove the S8 for a week I just wasn't content with her having to drive the with the H&R suspension.
I finally upgraded her suspension to the S8 suspension yesterday. It only took me a couple of hours to do the conversion. I wish I had done this upgrade years ago. Her A8 has 217,000 and it drives like a new car with the S8 springs and shocks. It is amazing what a difference it makes in the car. The handling is still fantastic but with an incredible increase in ride quality. It was definitely worth the money and effort to convert it.

Very cool- you invested in a new suspendo on an A8 w/ 217k mi? Awesome!
It must only mean you plan on keeping and driving the car for awhile. Is this a high mileage record here?

Close second I believe, I am still ahead with 232k, car is in the shop today
to finally get the Oil Cooler done, been living with the leak for six month now, but the loss of coolant has been increasing and started to worry me a bit, especially now that winter is here.

Re: Where did you get the suspension parts?
I got the front shocks and springs from a wrecking yard. They had a `01 S8 with 50,000 that had an interior fire. Unfortunately they didn't have the rear springs or shocks so I had to buy the springs new. I reused the H&R rear shocks and they work great with the new S8 springs. Only took a little less than three hours to install everything.
I must admit I considered all new parts and a possible swapping did cross my mind.

Re: These cars are amazing how well they hold up to the miles.
It has been a virtually trouble free car that drives like new and costs very little to maintain especially when you consider the high miles that it has on it now. I am sure that eventually the transmission will give out but I guess that is to be expected at this mileage. I even took it to Beaver Run and used it to get my national Porsche instructors license last year so I certainly don't baby to car.
My wife wants to try to get 400,000 miles out of it which may be a bit much but it sure seems to be holding up well. It looks like a new car and now it drives like a luxury sports sedan.
