Default Seal it up.

I have a 2001 A8L Quattro and have a question which I hope will save me considerable time and frustration.

Is the seal for the Final Drive - Rear
Flange Seal Replacement (the seals that face the CV axles) the same seal as the procedure for Transmission Output Flange Seal Replacement?
I will need 2 seals if doing passenger and driver side, yes?

Part number: 018 409 399 B Seal

Default Output flanges are designed the same so the procedure is similar but obviously not the same.

Yes one seal per flange. The left and right seal on my urS6 was different. I don't have ETKA in the office so I cannot comment on the part number.

HTH,

Mark

I got the procedure from AudiPages. The final drive seal has the part number, but not the CV axle seal procedure. I don't wanna make multiple stealer trips in 105 degree weather. Are there after market sources or is this a stealer reccommended part?

Default For the rear diff seals facing the rear CV axles, I'm showing 016 409 399B.

So not the same seal. FWIW, I do show 018 409 399 B for the tailshaft seal. But not the rear diff output seal.

And yes, two thus.

Default Do you have the original full-res pic of the disassembled diff that has the seal box in it?

"Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a mechanic"

Funny cause I tried blowing that very picture up to read the box. My conclusion..it's either 016 or 018 :-)
