Spacers cause vibrations. I give up...
I'm really pissed. I bought expensive spacers, H&R 10mm per wheel (dual-centering), and they cause minute vibrations.
Mind you, it's faint most of the times but sometimes it becomes quite apparent.
I noticed that, when looking very carefully at how the spacer centers on the hub, that it's not an absolute tight fit. There is a very, very small amount of play. It's not entirely snug.
The spacer does look and feel like it fits snugly in the wheel though (S8 facelift wheels).
This very small play between the hub and the spacer.
When i fit the wheel itself on to the hub there is no play at all. It fits very snug and solid.
So tonight i removed the spacers for the last time, cleaned everything from rust and mounted the wheels directly onto the hubs.
No vibrations what so ever anymore. Smooth as silk. Thank god because these vibrations where driving me crazy.
I re-mounted the spacers and wheels a couple of times before during the hunt for the cause of the vibrations, cleaning everyting from rust thoroughly each time. I just could not get it vibe-free.
These H&R spacers are listed for the A8 D2 (and some other Audi models) and are even certified (TUV and ABE) for the A8 D3 (the D2 has only TUV certification).
Does anyone else have an experience like this ?
(Mind you, if you think tiny vibrations are normal, it's not.
If you run on good tires and precisely-balanced wheels etc. etc. an A8/S8 feels like driving on a freshly ironed pools/billiards-table. Absolutely vibration-free)

Exact same symptoms...
Stock S8 rims are gold! Aftermarket Konig wheels with more offset and not quite as tight centering fit, vibs on certain surfaces. Put stock back on and no vibs on same surface. Stock is good although I am still running the Konigs as the more offset looks cooler! Cool is good too.

No vibrations here
Running edweirdoh el cheapo 15mm too IIRC.
I like the look so much more than w/o that I run them winter too... So far, only minimal corrosion.

I installed 15's/20's, and there was no noticeable increase in vibration. With the suspension
setup I'm running though, you'd have to be god to notice any vibration increase. I feel EVERYTHING that the road has to offer.
