While driving my 97 A8 today, I was getting a strange thing happening as I would slow down for a traffic light, or a speed limit change. If I were to slow down from 40-50 to 20-30 and then try to speed up again, the car was bucking and shaking when I hit the gas. It was like it was stuck in 5th gear. I would let off on the gas and then press the pedal again and the rpm would increase and the car would drive fine. If I had to slow down again and then speed up, it would do it again. Not always bucking, but a clunk or a thud. I have had a tranny service two years ago and I have 115K miles on the car. I'll pull the codes and see if there are any. Very strange though. If I were in 4th gear in town, it drove better. What is this?

It was in the engine fault code section of Vag-Com. It was an oxygen sensor no activity-intermitent. Does this have any relevance? Help please.Thanks

our A8 does the same thing. We're saving some shekels for a rebuild. That, a timing belt and a new coat of paint (ours has been beat-up) and we hope to take it from 150k to 250k on the odometer.
