06 A8 4.2 Start control module (Access and Start Authorization)
The D3 has been running like champ until this morning. Went on a trip down to Charlotte got home park the car on the drive. Woke up this morning, put the key in - car wont start/turn over, key not being recognized, steering lock, nothing from the cluster.....Base on my research sounds like Access and Start Authorization fault which i have seen a couple threads on. I scanned the codes after doing the hazard/highbeam procedure to "wake the care up". I clear the code that was present but still nothing.
I found good column on ebay that hasnt been taken apart (save time with installing) with key. Can i program the key using Vag com? Thank you

I did a auto scan and was in hurry this morning so i cleared all DTC's as some suggest doing this will allow me to start the car. I know for sure there was a code in the start authorization module (I know i should have saved it)

There is no way to program a key with VCDS. Has to be done at a dealer. If you replace the column, module, and have a new key, I think you should be good to go, IIRC.

..............Thought it had to key and ignition switch but it does. What are your thoughts? go with a column that comes with th ignition switch and key or go with this one and get a new key made and program. Thanks again

Swap it out but has to go to Audi dealer to reprogram or you can clone it
See my posts about kessy j519
Also steering column as stated you need new keys or get one with original key and still needs programming at Audi dealer

it may be your KESSY module, there is no start module in the steering column, that is the steering lock module/motor, the kessy module under the drivers side carpet is your keyless entry authorization/start module, the KESSY, steering column, engine ECM, and key must all be from the same vehicle, you can replace any one of the units, but you must have the secret key code for both the original and replacement unit, which I have read with CARPROG, therefore you can buy used parts and read the SKC of both, then with that info you can write the replacement part with you vehicles VIN # and IMMO number, as far as ROSS-TECH not being able to program keys, It sure can, as long as the key is new never before programmed, and again you must have the SKC, I just coded 2 new Bentley 2nd gen keys with Ross-Tech.
Also, what is odd is that the fault code is dated March 30th.....
Did you try disconnecting the vehicle battery for a bit ?

thanks for the thorough explanation. The car is stuck on my driveway blocking my other car in the garage. Even use the emergency release, put the car in neutral still wouldn't roll back.
I have to read it a few times to get it lol. I did disconnect the battery to have it new but like I thought it was good 12.8 volts. I didn't even realize the date. Ill hunt a used kessy, hopefully that fix the problem and I don't have to remove the column
