thanks for the thorough explanation. The car is stuck on my driveway blocking my other car in the garage. Even use the emergency release, put the car in neutral still wouldn't roll back.
I have to read it a few times to get it lol. I did disconnect the battery to have it new but like I thought it was good 12.8 volts. I didn't even realize the date. Ill hunt a used kessy, hopefully that fix the problem and I don't have to remove the column

yes remote works to lock and unlock the doors and also the trunk....I must say on 2 or 3 occasions I left the key in the car and the lock by itself most recently about a month ago.

As Storka stated,
it may be your KESSY module, there is no start module in the steering column, that is the steering lock module/motor, the kessy module under the drivers side carpet is your keyless entry authorization/start module, the KESSY, steering column, engine ECM, and key must all be from the same vehicle, you can replace any one of the units, but you must have the secret key code for both the original and replacement unit, which I have read with CARPROG, therefore you can buy used parts and read the SKC of both, then with that info you can write the replacement part with you vehicles VIN # and IMMO number, as far as ROSS-TECH not being able to program keys, It sure can, as long as the key is new never before programmed, and again you must have the SKC, I just coded 2 new Bentley 2nd gen keys with Ross-Tech.
Also, what is odd is that the fault code is dated March 30th.....
Did you try disconnecting the vehicle battery for a bit ?

I don't know how to do it but the auto club has done it to mine
I have used vcds to reprogram my existing keys when I stuffed them up playing silly buggers
New keys? Not sure probably
Keys are write once only programed to the steering column that's why new column new keys
New kessy same keys
Don't believe Audi dealer when they say you have to replace column and kessy it's all bs

If it's dead in the water blocking your driveway maybe some wheel rollers
Just sent your error message to a tech I know .
don't know if he will answer.

This is what jack who does online coding said
"It looks like problem with key
You know hard to say
Need car in garage
Key or 05 module"
I would say if you only have one key buy another or try and rematch the key.
But you always need two rule out faulty key.
So do the key thing first
Maybe unplug and replug 05 Kessy and check for water damage.
