Default 2004 A8 battery drain

Hi all I am from Nelson N.Z. and my car does not stay asleep and drains battery.
It has a new Audi Varta battery and has been coded, when you turn the key off and car haz light goes off you hear a click behind dash "at this time clock and date resets itself" then draws 2 amps then up to 8 amps as radio tuner nav etc start runs for about 10 secs then stops minimal drain wait a minute and the process starts again and does eventually completely drain the batt in 2 days.
Has been to the v.w dealer here "they do not know anything re A8 and nearest audi is 500 kms away " and supposed euro spec for 20 days in total and have had no luck with it so I have brought ross tech myself after reading through the forums I figured I would need it.
Component protective active only comes up sporadically since the last mechanic had the car but it is not in all scans and the problem was their before that happened any advice would be greatly appreciated many thanks in advance.

A few ideas, none definitive:

1. Is the Nav screen popping up as does this, or do you at least see screen lighting up through the crack in the dash trim when its closed? Is Nav resetting each time to where it goes back to the splash screen with the Audi graphic/image? If so, look for debris around MMI control panel keys, and any sticking buttons.

2. Look at this TSB around a dying radio, even if maybe the temperature part doesn't fit: http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/Stereo/Ra...%20degrees.pdf

3. Prior TSB alludes to testing MOST optical ring. I have never done it and don't know much about it, but a hunch is something on the ring is acting up/faulty and is creating the issue. The radio is one example. See if others can chime in for help, or do more research there. Similar system is in both C6 (prior generation) A6 and in Q7 if you don't find D3 A8 specific info. I think I remember posts where people have had faulty components and the ring won't let the car go to sleep, killing battery eventually

4. One I remembered that supposedly is only 2007's, but ties to radio and dead batteries. Can nonetheless review and poke into the diagnostics: http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/Electrica...Dead%20(2).pdf

Thanks for the reply
1 no screen is not popping up have not noticed any light on the screen but will check and no mmi is not resetting itself to start up screen

2 will have a look
3 in the hidden menu I quite often have an error standby no most light not sure what that means
4 will have a look at

when this is happening which is all the time a couple of other things also happen
front and rear interior lights are on when doors are opened and the rear heater is on I turn both of these off but they manage to come on again next time entering car

The elow are the modules that are on when car has come out of sleep mode when the click in dash happens car still no key anywhere near

I have checked the optical ring and all units are okay with key on showing there is no break in the units but not sure if a break occurring in sleep mode for whatever reason could cause it nav gear is removed by way of audi fibre connector as car is japan import and does not work in n.z.
many thanks in advance.

Default Some good advice from MP

this is a screen shot of doing a MOST fibre loop scan

This is a scan result showing a break in the system

I do however feel that you have a problem with the cluster or the link between gateway and cluster.

Try the things mentioned first though and see what happens

Hi thanks for that, yes I have done that and certainly while ignition is on all of the bus says okay and there is no break problem for me is
only happens when car is off
would a break in the link matter if it occurs when car is in sleep mode as in does it require information all of the time
I can post the same screenshot showing no errors ignition off when everything above comes back to life and they still say okay thanks very much in advance.

Try pulling the fuse for the cluster and see if noise stops and battery drain goes away

Yeah just looked at wiring diagram, fuse 5 also powers the can gateway so thats probably why she wouldn't start and gave you loads of errors.

Only further add I can suggest given newer replies is to look at the modules on the ring like the radio per the TSB. If you can't find a resolvable issue via VCDS, other old fashioned diagnostic approach would be getting an optical ring bypass connector (posted on previously IIRC) and unplugging a given module to see if issue is then fixed. Units don't just self power down IIRC nor is their power cut via a central relay type set up. They get a command to do so, plus they have to not be messed up internally like the radio electronics TSB as one example.
