Yeah, it's a bit difficult to push in the clutch on an automatic.

Hello,
Just so we are on the same page, is the relay you replaced located in slot #3 located right below the orange 40AMP compressor fuse, as shown in pictures in post #52 in the attached thread link, upper relay with # 370 on it.

.
Yes, that was the one I replaced.

Sorry for the extended delay in responding. Life got in the way and I had to put repairing the car on hold.

Astro,
You never did tell us if the brake lights work after you replaced the BL switch, so please let us know, ALSO, any chance of posting some pictures of the dash when you insert and turn on key ?
No, the brake lights did not work (and still do not work).

Yeah ... I wish I had the ability to do a scan, but I don't have the equipment.

Where are you located Astro? If somewhere near by I'll help you out with a scan. I'm sure if I'm not close there's another member who is that would help.

Astro, without a video or pics of the dash on startup, or absent a VCDS scan, this is going to be neigh impossible to diagnose.

I'm going to sound like a d!ck for saying this, but I can't imagine keeping one of these cars for any length of time without a vag-com scanner. Absolutely required for these things.

If you're near SLC I can help with a scan....
