Default 2006 A8 or 2008 A8

Yes, I am aware that this question has been asked many times.
I apologize.
Nevertheless, I would like to request a moment of your time.
I am at the crossroads and would appreciate any thoughts, so thank you in advance.

Here is the situation...
2 Very similar cars are offered for sale.

1. 2006 A8 (4.2) Base with 79k miles.
(recently replaced timing belt, water pump, thermostat, brakes and tired & updated AMI with iPod connect).

2. 2008 A8 (4.2) Base with 109k miles.
(no recent big maintenance).

Both cars are:
Same color (black)
Same out of state highway miles
2 owner cars with decent amount of service records (not leased).
And finally, Same exact price...

Which one comes home with me and why?

Thank you all...

From a maintenance perspective- the 06. Why? Because overall lower mileage, and if you have proof of the timing belt, you shouldn't need to touch it until 150k miles.

The 08 has the looming timing chain/guide service, not sure of the mileage.....

Me probably lean to the '06 as well. Just a known quantity as far as I am concerned. T-belts and conventional injection. Nothing wrong with that. Cut a deal!

07 &up = carbon & chains. PS I might go look at an 07 next week out of auction. Suspiciously low price on that one.

By all means 2008. A bit more millage is almost irrelevant and it is better car in many aspects. 2 years younger too. Carbon deposits and chains are just garage myth that has nothing to do with A8.

Why is that? I've seen on some cars for sale that they've had the carbon deposits cleaned in some instances.

Carbon cleaning is reasonably rare. I haven't found a single case of failed timing chain on a D3. Condition, price and options would be the deciding factors for me.

I wouldn't dismiss the carbon issues with high miles, but the chain myth is just that, a myth. Think about how much $$$$ you WON'T be spending on belts.

Mechanisms aside, the '08+ are way sexier: LED array taillights, gloss black grill, no sidemarkers.

PM Sent - I have an '09 and '06 in inventory.

Go for the 2008, I hear little or no complaints on 08's and higher on this board and the upgraded engine and styling are a big bonus!
