Default 35K service cost - Audi S8

Hello,

I have a D3 S8 that is due for the 35K service. Calling 4 Audi dealers that are with 30 miles, I have been quoted $338, $695, $1,063 and $1,550 for this service ... How is that possible that they do not have somewhat the same price? This is crazy considering that it is scheduled maintenance.

What have been your experiences for this service in regards to price (I am in Nothern virginia)?

Thx.

Why are you going to the dealer for a 35k service?
This service is extremely DIY. Change some filters and get your oil changed. There is your "35k service"
Paying anything over $200 for this is ludicrous.

The good news is that this proves there is no price fixing. DOn't tell the high priced dealer about the low priced one. All that would happen is that the low priced guy will jack up his price.

Unfortunately, I am not too much of a DIY type of guy when it comes to servicing my car. I am willing to pay a bit for service and convenience but I do not want to be taken advantage of. Thanks for your feedback.

Then go to the nearest Audi and pay what they're asking.

I do believe that some dealers gouge on prices, either by inflating their labor rate or the amount of time to complete a specific task (although I believe almost all dealers use a predetermined "book rate" for labor costs). FWIW, I paid $480 for the 35K service (SE Michigan), but that was 2.5 years ago.

My recommendation would be to choose the cheapest quote, but have them walk through what services are performed to make sure they aren't omitting something that the others are including in their price.

I just don't get it. This isn't a audi specific service. Give the car to your buddy who is a mechanic or someone you trust and have them do it. It's not like there is anything needed with the vag-com computer. A good indy shop wouldn't mind doing this whatsoever. I'm sure the dealers laugh when you ask for the 35k service to be done there.

And $480 for this? You must be nuts, or at the time ignorant to what the car needs. No offense of course. As said before even with parts included this shouldn't ever go above $200. Change filters, oil; your done. Don't buy into the need to be done here' hype

I paid $740 for the maintence plan which covered 4 services: 15k, 25k, 35k and 45k. Some of the prices you were quoted are outrageous! My invoice for the 35K services included an oil change and brake fluid flush, that's it.

I had just bought the car, and wanted to establish a relationship with my local dealer for future warranty work. Plus, they gave the car a complete once-over to find anything I had missed when I inspected the car prior to purchase (they found one little thing that was easily fixed).

Now that the car is out of warranty, I do much of the maintenance myself or use a local indy repair shop for bigger jobs.

Default Service

you asking advise in the wrong place when it comes to maintenance.
as an independent Audi shop my 35k service price exceeds the $1000.00, ask the dealers exactly what is included in the service and then make your decision.
one example is the sunroof and plenum area drains, you may get a cheaper service and later spend thousands in water damage repairs.
