Alignment..
$189 for an alignment at the dealership 2 HOURS away from me. No one around me works on European vehicles. Except one, he said he could do the alignment, but can’t do any of the electrical things that need done like the steering angle.
What all would need need done on VCDS after getting an alignment? I told him I had the scanner and everything and that I would take care of that part.

Nothing at all. I can tell you that traditional alignment shops will get it wrong. I had that happen after my accident a couple months ago, the repair facility had it done at a tire shop and they got it wrong and it had to go to the dealer to be done properly. But the dealer will handle everything that needs doing, you don't have any follow up to do with VCDS.

Yeah, have the local shop do it and then head to the dealership and have them correct it.
(Why would you purchase a car that you can't realistically make the trip when it needs something? Is it worth it?)

Is the correction less expensive? And the difference here is the dealer said $189 and the other one near me said 39. I don’t think the drive there would be too bad, I like driving far distances, but $189 for an alignment is unheard of. I’ll look into it some more

The alignment on the A8 involves more than most cars, so regular shops miss part of it. Even when their machines say it's right, it often isn't. It's a four wheel affair that even includes adjusting the engine cradle.
