Any feedback on difference between the FSI and standard 4.2?
Thinking of swapping out my old D2 model for a D3 and the 4.2 V8s are looking cheap given the new taxes here and petrol prices. Does anyone have any experience of the original 4.2 and the later FSI version please for advice?

Had the 300 hp 4.2 on my '01 C5 and now have the 350 hp FSI 4.2 on my '07 C6.
I was quite happy with the former, but only until I got into the later. Noticable improvement in punch, both off the line and especially highway passing, and better milage to boot.

No timing belt on the FSI engines.
But I have 97,000 on my "ticking bomb" belt and it still looks good.
Will I get 150k or will I be replacing 16 or 32 valves???????????

Thanks for all the info...
My 1997 D2 300 bhp 4.2 still goes and sounds great on 120k miles, it's just the interior and the electrics are beginning to show their age. Any special problems I should look out for before handing over the cash? (mechanicals)
