Default Auto trunk doesn't close all the way...HELP

2007/S8

Pressing the button in trunk to close it does actually close it

the problem is that it doesn't close all the way where it trips the sensor closed. it looks closed, just not enough to trigger that sensor. if i push real hard on the trunk i can then hear it 'click' shut and i hear some motor engage something.

i have no codes so just seeing where a good place to start diagnosing is and if anybody had any ideas on what the issue is

Thanks!

That weight is factored into closing force. Otherwise try adding some weight in there. Also, do you have the notorious plastic trunk motor (I love how so many AUDI parts/issues are notorious, like the IMF flaps and the G410)?

is that closing force something i can change in the VCDS?

i'm not sure if i have that plastic motor, not sure where to locate it?

Easy way to test the locking mechanism. open the trunkl use a rod or a screw driver to lock the mechanism. see if you can force it open witth screw driver. It shouldnt take too much force to see ift the mechanism is worn. if its worn, just buy an new one and replace.

is that would it could be? i thought maybe the trunk wasn't closing hard enough. when i manually close the trunk or i push it down after that motorized closing, i can hear the lock latching. so could it just be the force needed to latch it isn't enough?

Its possible and thats why I suggested that you can test it. no special tools required. You can even use your key and it takes about 5 seconds

The trunk latch failure is very common across many VAG vehicles. The same part was used pretty much across the board. It usually rears it’s head in cold weather, but can sometimes just happen.

Replacement is straight forward DIY and it solves the issue permanently.

angelglo - it was spring on the latching post. it was missing. bought a cheap spring, modified it and hooked it on. no more issues
