bad brake light switch symptoms

OK guys, well it seems that the brake switch was the culprit!! the symptoms of not switching gears till redline was caused by a faulty brake light switch!! hope this helps a fellow A8 owner in the future.

It intermittently wouldn't crank, with either the start engine button or the key in the lock.
Pressing the stop engine button would temporarily fix it.
Also had intermittent problems with losing power on turns and starting from traffic lights.
So far, these things haven't shown up again since they replaced the brake light switch.

Did you mean parking brake light switch or just break light switch or are they the same ?

I have the same symptoms that you described esp/abs light on
no power when trying to give gas intermittent problems starting the engine car stalls at stoplight or while driven its wont go any further tell i stop the car and start it agian to get keep going i haven't replaced yet
