No issues. They want you to connect to the charging points under the hood, not directly at the battery itself.
I've gone thru a couple of Battery Tenders and a couple of the Yuasa equivalents. They seem to range from 1A up to 1.5A in charging mode. The float charge is 10 mA for the Yuasa once the battery is topped off. I don't recall what the rate if for the Deltran unit
Most of these newer cars use an AGM type battery which is quite a bit better in terms of self-discharge compared to a traditional flooded battery. May not be much of a worry at all in terms of letting the car sit.

without direct connection?
Easier than what I was thinking on the hard wire option. Just unplug and go. Will route the cable thru the steering wheel
so I don't forget it's there
Deltran's sales propaganda states that the Battery Tender Plus (which I have) has built in algorithm's that adjust charge depending on sensed battery condition and will work on Flooded and AGM applications. All technobabble to me.. but has worked fine for me in the past
In float mode, output is less than 10mA according to the specs.
so overcharge should not occur.

Nothing like resurrecting a 7 year old thread! (Apologies if there are newer threads).
Where exactly do those of you who have a Battery Tender Plus attach it? There might come a time during the winter when I will not be driving my 2009 S8 for a few months at a time. Is a battery tender even necessary if I didn’t drive it for, say, 2 or more months?
Thanks.

Is On This Right Now. I connect to the battery Neg and the Pos post off the battery Management Controller as any charger should be connected. I use the ring-end harness that came with and route under the left compartment cover to qucik dissconnecr end and then to a 15 foot extension cable to the tender mounted in my carport. Can get pics in the daylight if you want.

Size Matters
If all you want is to keep a fully charged battery topped up, the 800 MA is enough. If you also want to be able to charge up a run down battery, get the 5 Amp.
