Radio not working most of the time...then out of the blue it starts up again.
Screen sometimes pops up ...sometimes not.
When its all working it it works fine.
Have heard a popping noise now and then from the back of the cabin when it tries to boot up.
When screen comes on with logo screen...stays lit for a few seconds then back to black. Only changes made are : New dealer nav disk installed. Worked fine for months. Genuine Audi Loopback Fibre Optic Bridge Wire Loop 2-pin Connector 4E0973802 ordered.

CD unit in glove box? If so, they are the standard Blaupunkt type flat blade pullers (as opposed to the older round shaped fork ones). eBay, Amazon, etc.

You need at many optical ring/loop bypasses as the number of devices you disconnect. Back in that area, yes sat radio if you don't have the module or entirely disconnected. But if you pull a bypass there without a device, ring would fail just from that. Haven't played with it, but if you can eliminate by tying both ends of Nav unit into active ring, now you would have the bypass freed up as a loop tester.

Yes, you can leave it in full time of course. I guess I don't understand what your question is. I thought you were going after the CD drive, which is up in the glove bx and connected by the optical loop. In turn I thought you were trying to bypass it for some reason and wanting to borrow the optical bypass where your sat radio tuner would otherwise be.

I think your problem is CAN Gateway module. It is behind the glove box and it can't be bypassed because it runs optic loop. Replace it with eBay one. They are cheep.
