As in pressing the CD/AUX button on the MMI and then selecting SOURCE and choosing AMI? Yes.

Is there a step beyond that?

I have been dealing with the same issue, I have tried three different WMA3000A’s and none of them worked. One was tested at the audi dealer by the service tech and it wouldn’t power up at all. I have an ipod that I plugged into the factory Audi AMI cable and it powers up and plays music so the AMI unit is not dead. I expect you will find the same results with your AMI. After scouring the internet for a solution I came across this web site.

Add Bluetooth A2DP Streaming to your Audi - A2DP4AUDI - Audi Bluetooth Adapters

He specializes in Bluetooth for Audi’s, nice guy, fast response to questions. From what I understand the AMI is looking for a specific wiring infrastructure like what it would see when an Apple Ipod is plugged into it. When the AMI sees this it will apply power to the Ipod and everything works as it should. For some reason the wiring structure on the Tune to Air devices aren’t recognized by the AMI so it won’t apply power to the Bluetooth unit and it looks like its dead.

What this company had developed is an externally powered AMI plug. So you hard wire a power source from the passenger side fuse panel next to the glove box and magically it works. That being said I have not tried it yet but plan too. Below are the recommended components to make the system work. I have also included the email conversation I had with Rich at A2DP for reference.

COMBO DEAL - Custom Audi AMI AUX Cable w/Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP Receiver

Hardwire Power Kit

Hi Eddy,

Thanks for your interest.

Yes, what you are describing is what I would expect for an 08 w/2G MMI. What I sell will also work with your Samsung Galaxy S6. In facts, works with any phone that supports Bluetooth.

For your vehicle, you'll need the combo deal:

COMBO DEAL - Custom Audi AMI AUX Cable w/Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP Receiver

and either one of the two power kits:

Hardwire Power Kit

Lighter Socket Power Kit

model_year: 2008
model: S8
reason: I have a 2008 S8 with the 2G mmi system, I just had the
software updated to the most current version by Audi. In the glove
box I have The Audi AMI unit and factory CD changer. With an iPod
plugged into the factory AMI cable everything works perfect, the iPod
has power all the time and it streams music through the radio. I have
been trying to get a Tune2Air blue tooth adapter to work in the AMI
slot but it wont even power up, I even took it to Audi and had them
give it a try to no avail With the Bluetooth adapter plugged in to
the AMI the system wouldn't even acknowledge that there was anything
plugged into the AMI slot. I returned the Bluetooth adapter but
continued to search for a solution. I read your section about an
external power source for the AMI plug using your Bluetooth system and
powered 30pin plug. Given my results do you think the problem I am
having Is the AMI plug not powering an aftermarket device? Will the
AMI only power up an iPod plugged into!
the factory Audi AMI cable?

Also will your Bluetooth adapter work with Samsung Bluetooth devices,
ie galaxy S6?

Thank you for your help
Eddy

Thank you for the advice. This forum is great! I will look into the devices offered by that guy and probably return the WMA3000A.

The link + video suggests this A2DP interface is for 3G MMI; please provide updates if it works for your MMI 2G.

If you go to the FAQ section on the web site and read the last question and answer he addresses the use of the adapter on non 3G systems and why the auxiliary power cable is required for 2G.

FAQ - Add Bluetooth A2DP Streaming to your Audi - A2DP4AUDI - Audi Bluetooth Adapters

In my original email to the site owner i described that i have a 2G and those are the components he recommended.

I purchased a simple AUX cable for my AMI and while connecting that device I realized I may have a short. I had to wiggle the cable a bit to get stereo audio. Now I am wondering if the WMA3000A did not work due to the short? Has anyone else experienced a short in their AMI?
