Brake Light reflection while backing?

Brake Light reflection while backing?
I'm noticing a great deal of "splash back" from the brake lights at night while backing. Normal rear light when not backing is not a problem, but while backing and braking the red seams to bounce off the rear window and back toward the driver overshadowing (funny use of word to describe light!) the dark outside. Is it time for another eye checkup? A8 swb
