I looked at an 04 A8 yesterday, low miles, and notice the paint bubbling up on the the valve covers. I used my finger to scratched some of it away and it seem like the aluminum beneath was corroded and lifting the paint. Any ideas of what may have caused this ?

That's corrosion and happens to everybody sooner or later. You can take covers off and repaint or powder coat them. Red, for example.

Looking to buy anywhere from an 04 to 06. Hope to own one soon

Valve covers are coated from the factory. Eventually after many heat cycles it eventually cracks and will start to peal.

You can either strip them of the coating and reinstall or like others have said have them powder coated/painted.
