Can't figure this one out

latch is just a regular warranty part, there was a campaign to update the hinges
and all cars should have the new ones and if they don't you're probably SOL as the campaign expired.
My guess is the trunk latch will fix or has fixed all these new issues.

I posted this same issue a couple months back, latch replaced under CPO $50,
I think most will eventually have this issue and have to have latch repalced. Kinda of like the hinge problem, but latch problem hasn't been TSB's yet but probably will soon.

thanks for all the info
I going to try to work on it myself for the week or so, and if no luck I will call the dealer. I have been out of CPO for a while now, I'm close to 140,000 miles, with not a single problem (besides the trunk) except for rountine service, so I have been pretty fortunate. I wish I could say the same for my other audis.

I called audi advocate. The dealer told them it was the hinge that need replalced.
They told me it wasnt covered under the warranty and that it was wear and tear. They said that the dealer did a good job by offering to pay for labor and I pay for the rest. I have to pay 250.
I saw the hinge on genuinevwaudiparts.com for 42 dollars. I am thinking the dealer is making me pay for everything and just covering it up.
Why would the right side of my trunk stick up alittle if the hinge didnt replace?

Re: Wow, 140K miles on an 04, you must drive a ton.
I do close to 55k a year. Mainly use the A8 for work and is a great vacation car. Everytime I take it in for service the service advisor can't believe it still looks as good as it does with that many miles. Plan on driving it till the wheels fall off!!!

Trunk light
I have this continuing problem with the trunk open light being on. I called the Audi advisor today asking about recalls ect.. He was polite but not very helpful!
Shouldn't there be a simple way to loop the electical connection so the light doesn't come on? Tried lubing hinges, roller pin ect. Guess I'll have to wait for warmer weather. Just can't see paying the dealer (who doesn't sell many A8's and in fact couldn't figure out what the current MMI configuration was or what I was even talking about. Very frustrating indeed.

Re: Trunk light
The latch seems to control the trunk lights. When I disconnect the three wire connector from the latch; the lights go out. Reconnect and the lights come on.
Simple to get to, remove tool kit (four screws under the round caps-center cap is a dummy on mine)two scres on the "handle" opposite the inside release. One Torx head screw on the inside release-peel off the "phosphorous" cap first. Then pry off the trunk lid liner.
